Piano Staircase

...

We have all been tempted to take the elevator to go one or two flights of stairs. But how often do we consider the effect that this habit has on our surroundings and us. For one, we lose out on an opportunity for physical activity that keeps our body and mind in shape. There is also the waste of electricity when elevators climb just 1 or 2 floors, when this power could easily be saved.
Inspired by the Volkswagen fun theory project, Piano Stairs, riidl has taken it a step further. With the mixture of enhanced visuals and music creation using the staircase, this group has created a perfect tool to encourage students on campus to take the stairs instead of the elevator. A prototype run done earlier validated the usefulness of this tool. 35% more students took the staircase and spent nearly 40 seconds on 1 flight of stairs instead of the usual 25 seconds, playing piano tones on the staircase. They have enhanced this further by displaying animated projections of the staircase users on a screen. How awesome is that!

Eco Mappers

...

The project envisages the collection of data about dust, pollution and noise levels across various cities. Also, it provides various solutions to curb the respective polutant.
The kit will map the pollution levels real time and send the data to google maps. eg: if 'A' wants to travel to 'Bandra'. A would use a mobile phone to check the pollution level of that area.
He would go to google maps, click on the area 'Bandra'. This would pop a small window which will notify him about the pollution levels and suggest him a suitable time to travel and avoid intense pollution.
We could get pollution updates, like we get traffic updates.
